Joel S. Crabtree is the Admissions/ Marketing Director of Hillcrest Nursing Center. He assists families and social workers in finding the appropriate care setting for their loved one or client, and educates the general public of the services that are offered at Hillcrest. Joel received his nursing degree in 1992 and began his career working in a specialized hospital unit for the terminally ill before the concept of hospice became a reality.

He subsequently received his certification in intravenous and porta-cath therapy in late 1992. Joel was recognized early in his career for his dedication to patient education. He realized his clients wanted to understand their illness and learn how medical science was able to help them. His compassion and calm manner has always ensured trust and respect from his clients and their families.

He continued his career in 1993 as a nursing supervisor for a long term care facility where he excelled working with the elderly. He researched advanced wound care products and developed new techniques in chronic wound care. He truly enjoys working with the elderly and gently reminds us that our seniors have protected our freedom and defined our heritage.

In 1994 he joined the nursing staff of The Wright Home and quickly became the charge nurse. He gained a wealth of knowledge working with young adults in the MR/DD care setting and worked closely with a highly respected neurology group. He also held the title of payroll clerk for all departments.

Joel began his career at Hillcrest Nursing Center in 1996 in the Social Services Department and later became the Admissions/ Marketing Director. He has a simple belief that healthcare can be both professional and have that personal touch. Healthcare is about compassionate people helping those in need and Joel feels healthcare should always be built on that foundation.

His marketing skills produce a consistent census at or above ninety five percent and hosts/ sponsors many community events. He is currently a member of six chambers of commerce and served on the board in the Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce. Joel continually strives to bridge the gap between community and nursing facility.

He received his certification in Abuse and Neglect Prevention and teaches staff and colleagues about abuse prevention and stress management. He stresses the importance of a resident sensitive environment and that employees need a healthy mix of work and relaxation.

He continued his education and received his certificate in Medicaid Planning allowing him to assist families in the Medicaid process as well as estate planning and regularly works with an estate planning attorney. He also received his certificate in OSHA compliance and is currently the Workers Compensation Administrator for Hillcrest in which he investigates and reports claims to ensure quality healthcare for employees who are injured while on duty.
